Solar

How much will it cost?
That depends on a few things. Access, the wiring already in your home and of course the size of thew solar PV system you want to install.

How much energy will my panels produce?
The standard assumption when panels are designed, in good conditions is 1000kw per year, per kW of solar panels installed. It varies slightly depending on the pitch and orientation of your roof (The angle of the slope of your roof and the direction in which it faces) In South Wales where we are based, there is excellent solar radiation. Even on a West or East facing roof, you will still benefit from around 70% of the maximum available. As MCS accredited contractors, we take all of this data into account in the first stages of your proposal. We will take our time to explain too. Making sure you understand fully what your system would be capable of before its even there.

If your roof has any shading issues they need to be considered carefully. Solar panels in their most basic form are a bit like Christmas tree lights of old. If one goes out (is shaded) they all do! We have excellent solutions to help mitigate any potential effects, however. This will all be carefully explained in the early stages.

Are the panels unsightly?
Not the ones we use and recommend! We specific all black panels which, in our opinion, look very sleek. Whether on an old house or new, fitted carefully they will look amazing.

Do I have to pay VAT?
Not on residential systems until 2027. Potentially saving £1000’s of pounds on your install.

Can I sell any excess energy back to the grid?
As we are MCS registered contractors, yes you can! The SEG or smart export guarantee allows you to sell it back. You can also choose who to sell it back to. It doesn’t have to be the supplier you buy your electricity from.

Will my panels pay for themselves? Whilst they won’t get their own wallet out, yes they will! The savings you make on your electricity bill will ensure that, on a well oriented roof, the panels will save you the initial installation cost in 5 – 10 years. After this point, you are generating a great return on your investment of between 10 and 20% annually.

Do my panels and inverter have great warranties?
Industry standard on inverters is up to 10 years. Solar panels have a performance guarantee of up to 25 years! We can also set up extended warranties, from the manufacturer, on some products if you so wish.

Do they need cleaning?
Solar panels are designed to self-clean when installed on a standard roof inclination. That said, some local window cleaners are now offering this service.
