Electric Vehicle Charging Points

Concerns about the environment, potentially cheaper running costs and company car schemes mean many of us are considering an electric vehicle. Of course, if you’re getting an electric vehicle (EV), you’ll need somewhere to charge it. That’s where we come in.

At ACS we’re passionate about helping make sense of, what can appear at first glance, a bewildering array of products and choices. We will consult closely with you to determine which type and system will work best for you. At your home or business premises.

We are happy to carry out a full site survey, free of charge, to enable us to best help you make those choices and end up with the best possible solution for your budget.

Charging an electric car at home is most cost effective.

The cost to charge an electric car in the UK varies between home, work and public charging.

For a typical electric car with a 60kWh battery and approximately 200-mile range:

  • Charging at home: Costs about £17 for a full charge. *
  • Fully charging a 60kWh electric car will cost around £17 at home (depending on where you live) and give you about 200 miles of range.
  • Rapid charging: Rapid charging points are normally found at motorway service stations and typically cost £22 for a 30 min, giving around a 90 mile charge. **

* Costs calculated at 32p/kWh based on usable battery is approximately 54kWh (90%).
** Charging at 50kW, receiving 3.5 miles per kWh. Assumes tariff of 73p/kWh applicable to most network rapid chargers as of March 2023.

Electric cars very rarely need a “full” charge, as they never arrive completely empty and usually just need a top up.

By switching to a dual-rate electricity tariff designed specifically for EV drivers you could reduce this even further.
